Expect the unexpected: starting from 22nd place on the grid, Land-Motorsport managed to win the GT3 Am class in the 24-hour race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The victory was a reward for the drivers and team’s strong effort and flawless performance.
“Our goal was to be consistent and get through the race without any mistakes. We succeeded and winning the class is a well-deserved reward for everyone who has worked so hard over the last few days. We got through the 24 hours without any penalties or accidents, everything just went well,” said team manager Christian Land. “This result also rounds off our first season in the 24H Series in a good way.”
After bad luck in a wet qualifying, which was stopped prematurely, and the resulting 22nd place on the grid, there was only one goal for the drivers of the Audi R8 LMS GT3: to work their way as far forward as possible, but without taking any risks. The plan was converted perfectly by Wiggo Dalmo, Max Edelhoff, Ingo and Tim Vogler, and Dr. Johannes Kirchhoff. Throughout the race, the number 34 car continuously climbed up the standings.
Thanks to the flawless performance, the quintet was in strong second place in the class with an hour to go. But things were meant to get even better: in the fight for victory, the team benefited from problems faced by the competition. Shortly before the end, the racing squad took sixth place overall and the lead in the highly competitive GT3 Am category. After 24 hours and 713 laps raced, the success was celebrated on the podium.
For Land-Motorsport, the 2023 24H Series ended with the visit to Barcelona. Wolfgang and Christian Land’s team started in several endurance races this season on legendary tracks such as Monza, Mugello and Spa-Francorchamps and was crowned with third place in the GT3 Am and the GT3 Pro-Am classes.
