The joint victory at the Nürburgring 24-hour race, diverse titles in high-class GT series and a remarkable appearance on the grand Formula 1 stage – Markus Winkelhock from the Audi Sport customer racing squad looks back on a successful cooperation with Land-Motorsport. Most recently, he was involved in the GTC Race engagement, where optimal Gentleman Driver mentoring was on the agenda.
What memories do you associate with Land-Motorsport?
The best experience together with the Land-Motorsport team was of course the 2017 joint victory at the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring. Those are memories you will never forget. Celebrating this huge success with the team as well as Kelvin van der Linde, Connor De Phillippi and Christopher Mies is certainly the strongest bond to the squad.
You were with the team at the start of the GTC Race on the Nürburgring. What was your role exactly?
In principle, I drive an Audi R8 LMS GT3 here together with Florian Blatter, to be more exact I was his coach as he’s relatively new to motorsport. I’m very familiar with the car and have driven several races in the GTC series, so I support his learning process at the Nürburgring.
What’s the most important aspect of giving a Gentleman Driver the best possible support?
Basically, these drivers have little experience and therefore I have to use my input to best help and support them. Whether it’s a question of the right line on the race track, the correct set-up or explaining the ABS or traction control, I try and pass on my know-how as well as I can. It’s really just a case of passing on the basics to help make the driver faster on the race track.
