In a race characterised by constant weather changes and icy temperatures, Dr. Johannes Kirchhoff, Tim Vogler, Wiggo Dalmo and Max Edelhoff finished eighth overall and fifth in the AM class at the end of the twelve-hour race.
“The highest priority was to keep the car in one piece in these daunting conditions and get through the race without making any mistakes. We succeeded in that. Unfortunately, we lost valuable time due to several unfortunate Code 60 phases. This put us at an enormous disadvantage in the battle with our direct competitors and cost us valuable positions,” said team manager Christian Land. “Nevertheless, we are happy with the performance. Regardless of whether it’s a driver, mechanic or engineer – everyone can be proud of themselves.”
Strong Saturday, challenging Sunday
With ninth place on the grid, the crew of the Audi R8 LMS GT3 secured a promising starting position in qualifying for the upcoming race. In the race itself, the drivers delivered a remarkable performance in at times heavy rain. Thanks to the brilliant performance, the team was in second place in the AM class after the first five hours.
As wet as it was on Saturday, it was wintry on Sunday: light snowfall marked Land-Motorsport’s second day of racing in the Ardennes. The conditions caused countless incidents on the track and therefore also a large number of Code 60 phases – often at exactly the wrong moment for Niederdreisbach-based team.
The resulting loss of time repeatedly threw the quartet, which was in third place overall, back in the running order. Making the best of the circumstances, the team ultimately finished the twelve-hour race in fifth place in the class.
