What hardly anyone thought possible before the weekend became reality on 14 September: Ricardo Feller fought his way to victory for Land-Motorsport in the Audi R8 LMS GT3 at the seventh round of the season in Styria. It marked the Niederdreisbach-based team’s first-ever win in the championship.
“This win means absolutely everything to me. I’m incredibly proud of the whole crew, everyone did a perfect job today,” said a delighted Ricardo Feller after his Sunday race win. “After taking the first podium at the Nürburgring, it was clear that I wanted to give the team their first DTM victory as well. To make that happen with one round still to go is just amazing. It also proves that it’s always worth pushing on after setbacks like we had at the Sachsenring.”
Feller was one of the standout drivers all weekend, securing second and eighth places in the two qualifying sessions. He showed fighting spirit in both races with hard duels and bold overtakes. In Sunday’s race, he relentlessly pressured race leader Thierry Vermeulen until finally seizing the lead at half distance.
The pit crew also played a decisive role in the success. With two flawless stops of 7.2 and 7.8 seconds, they paved the way for Feller’s third DTM win and confirmed the team’s upward trend since joining the series at the start of the season. Spielberg yielded more points for Land-Motorsport than any other round so far.
Christian Land, who accepted the trophy for the winning team, was visibly moved: “Today was something truly special for me and the whole squad. When the car crossed the finish line, it felt like a huge weight had been lifted from our shoulders,” the team principal said. “None of us expected this result beforehand, the odds were stacked against us. That makes the joy and relief now all the greater.”
The victory at the Red Bull Ring was the perfect lead-in to the DTM season finale. The eighth and final round takes place at the Hockenheimring on 3-5 October.
