For Land-Motorsport, the past weekend was the most challenging of the 2026 DTM season so far. At the Lausitzring from 19 to 21 June, the team lacked the pace needed to challenge for top results. A points finish in Sunday’s race was the maximum that the team and driver Bastian Buus could salvage from the third event of the season.
Despite intensive preparations, free practice provided an early indication of how the weekend would unfold. Although Buus was only a few tenths of a second off the pace in his Porsche 911 GT3 R, the tightly contested field left him towards the back of the field. The opening race ended prematurely for the Dane, who had started from 20th on the grid, after he spun off in challenging wet conditions.
Following the early retirement on Saturday, the focus on Sunday shifted to damage limitation. Starting 16th on the grid for race two, Buus made an excellent getaway and gained several positions in the opening laps. The Dane spent much of the one-hour contest embroiled in midfield battles and ultimately took the chequered flag in 12th place.
The four points scored on Sunday were of symbolic value to team principal Christian Land: “We haven’t made any significant progress in the standings, but at least we’re not heading home empty-handed.”
The points finish was largely thanks to the flawless work of the team’s engineers and pit crew, who completed the mandatory pit stops in just 7.0 and 6.9 seconds, respectively. In a fiercely competitive championship such as the DTM, fast and error-free pit stops can make all the difference when it comes to securing valuable results.
The next opportunity to score points and challenge for podium finishes comes from 3 to 5 July. After the technical demands of the Lausitzring, the teams head to the streets of Nuremberg for the Norisring, a circuit that could hardly present a greater contrast to its counterpart in the Lausitz region.
