Christopher Mies has been part of Land-Motorsport’s ADAC GT Masters effort since the team made its debut in 2016. And the reigning champion is set to reprise his role in the German GT championship in 2022. Mies will join Tim Zimmermann behind the wheel of the #1 Audi R8 LMS GT3.
“We take great pride in having worked so successfully with Chris over the past few years,” said team principal Christian Land. “We have never made any secret of the fact that we want to continue working with him. So, we are delighted that he will be part of our squad for another year. Everyone at Land-Motorsport can benefit from his wealth of experience. We are all on the same wavelength, which is hugely important.”
A glance at Mies’ CV shows how much expertise the German has in GT racing. He has been a firm fixture at Audi for 13 years now and celebrated his first major success in 2009 by winning the FIA GT3 European Series. Countless further wins and several titles followed – many of them in partnership with MONTAPLAST by Land-Motorsport.
Land-Motorsport and Mies have competed in 125 races in six years – which is most likely a record in the fast-paced world of GT3 racing. In this time, Mies and the team have secured the triple of drivers’ title, teams’ title and rookie championship on two separate occasions in ADAC GT Masters and have taken overall victory at the Nürburgring 24 Hours and at multiple Nürburgring Endurance Series races.
Mies was also an integral part of the MONTAPLAST by Land-Motorsport’s US programme in 2017, competing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. He was part of the team since day one and has numerous successes to his name, including second position at the Daytona 24 Hours and a win at Petit Le Mans. “Chris is simply part of the family here, so there was no question that he would come with us to compete in the US,” said Land. “He performs extremely well in endurance races and knows exactly what it takes to win. His expertise as part of a well-run team was hugely beneficial in this project.”
The goal for the 2022 season is clear: title defence. “I am delighted to be back with the team for another year,” said Mies. “Of course, we want to be fighting for the title this season. I have a very quick co-driver in the shape of Tim, who has experience in ADAC GT Masters. I am sure will be up with the front runners throughout the season.”
