MONTAPLAST by Land-Motorsport continues for the season’s third 2021 ADAC GT Masters race weekend to Zandvoort Circuit. Martin Richter is always present, both for the preparation in Niederdreisbach as well as the event in the Netherlands. In an interview, the mechanic explains the importance of his multiple tasks relating to the Audi-Mamba.
Martin, you work on the car in Niederdreisbach as well as at the race track. Can you describe your tasks?
My tasks at the company mainly include preparing the cars, maintaining the equipment, and making sure everything is ready before and after a race weekend or a test. When it comes to working on the car, I’m mainly responsible for starting number 28 – which this year is our beautiful yellow Mamba. Here, carbon parts have to be prepared after an event, and consequently before the next race, both for the foiler and for repair. Smaller repairs are usually done at the Niederdreisbach site. It is important to keep the technical equipment up to scratch at all times, and the entire race car must be cared for accordingly. For the race weekend, of course, it’s also about transporting the cars safely to the track, which also includes loading and unloading our Audis. You could say, there’s always things for us to do.
Competition is strong and motorsport is in many respects very challenging. What’s necessary to stay on top of your profession?
Definitely precision and thoroughness. In motorsport, vehicles reach their limits and small details can make a huge difference. In addition, you have to be aware of how much responsibility you bear with your work. Under such extreme loads, it’s vital that the material is in perfect condition. You have to put all your heart into it!
When did your passion for cars start?
The whole thing began with my job in a workshop and I realised how passionate I felt about cars. Being able to work on an Audi R8 LMS GT3 in racing sport is, of course, a childhood dream and what I enjoy most. Land-Motorsport’s team spirit is extremely strong, we spend a lot of time together and it’s awesome to be in a good crew that understands each other. That’s exactly what makes the job so appealing. I’m all the more delighted when everything functions and we can celebrate a win as a team.
